Community Consultation
Open Public Meetings
The first community meeting for the project was held in August 2005 at the Marion Community and Cultural Centre. The purpose of the meeting was to brief the local community on the project, including details about why the project will be undertaken, overview of the proposal, local amenity issues, next steps for the project and opportunities for community engagement throughout the project.
A second community meeting was held in October 2005 at the Marion Community and Cultural Centre. This meeting focused on traffic management issues at the Diagonal Road/Morphett Road level crossing. A brief summary of the key issues raised at the meeting include:
-
The existing Oaklands Railway Station has reached the end of its useful working life, and requires refurbishing or replacing.
-
The State Government recognises that traffic management issues surrounding the level crossing are a key issue for the local community and it is investigating potential solutions for the crossing. Although the work associated with the crossing is not part of the scope of the interchange project, designs for the interchange will be compatible with any future crossing upgrade.
-
The new Interchange will be fully compliant with the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport, providing for people with disabilities and other mobility impaired persons. These are mandated by federal law.
-
No significant trees are to be removed to allow for construction of the interchange. A land title encumbrance will be put in place to ensure trees are protected on any surplus land which may be sold in the future. Trees that are identified as an actual or potential threat to public safety will be removed.
-
A Community Consultation Committee will be established for the project to ensure a two-way flow of communication throughout the project.
Community Consultation Committee
A Community Consultation Committee was established as part of the community engagement process for the project and comprised four members of the local community and representatives of the City of Marion and TransAdelaide.
The key function of the Community Consultation Committee was to inform the decision making process and to provide the local community with an opportunity to raise concerns and issues about the project and its impact upon them. Although the formal consulting process has now been completed, the Committee continues to meet on a bi-monthly basis to review environmental and site issues, and will continue to monitor the project through the construction phase.
The State Government will continue to maintain an open and transparent two-way flow of communication about the project to provide the community and interested parties with up to date information, and the opportunity to provide input throughout the project.
